Top 7 Unusual Easter Destinations

There are several spots where the traditional Easter atmosphere is totally animated by very weird um..elements.

1. Taipei, Taiwan

If you like to spend most of your time on the toilet seat, you can meet people just like you in Taipei. Here is the (in)famous “Toilet Restaurant”. The table are actually modified hot tubs, and the seats are…toilets. The exotic food (fortunately, no other surprises here) is served in other mini-toilet plates.

2. Dawson City, Alaska

Now we get to drinking. In the menu of an Alaskan club there is a cocktail that is a bit different. So different that the magic-ingredient is a man’s finger. You need a hard stomach for this and must be vigilant cause the hosts are evasive when it comes to the origins of the ingredient or if it is a different finger in every cocktail.
One more thing: house rules say the lips of the tourist must touch the salted finger.

3. Bangkok, Thailanda

Bangkok has an out of the ordinary spot as well. The “Cabbages & Condoms Restaurant” raises funds for the Population & Community Development Association. The coffee is served with a condom so…an extra-safe drink. Also the design of the restaurant is in association with the name.

4. Riga, Letonia

A cafe from Riga, Letonia, can brag about their toilets, which are the weirdest I’ve ever seen. Shot Café is famous not for their menu, but for the…excellent atmosphere they create in the bathroom. The transparent toilet seat is iluminated  with a color depending  on the people’s mood. Red, light green or dark blue uncovers the joy or sadness of the ones that stop by.

5. Hakone, Japonia

About Japanese we can definitely say they are the first when it comes to freaky tech developments. If you will see someone looking like you following you on the street, you’ll know they are trying to take over the world by replacing important people with their robots. But they are good at relaxation as well, it seems…at the bottom of Mount Fuji, they built a pool and they filled it with red wine. Hundreds of tourists and locals come daily cause it’s said the Yunessun Spa has amazing effects for the skin. The hosts recommend visitors not to leave by car…

6. San Francisco, California

In San Francisco there is a very interactive hot spot. La Cafe Gratitude, the name of the things on the menu ask you to buy them. A classic is the salate “I AM FESTIVE”. And if a waiter ask you “For what are you grateful today”, you MUST answer “For the food I’m going to receive”. Otherwise, you may walk away with your stomach empty.

7. Brisbane, Australia

To close our list we talk about a hotel in Brisbane that encourages visitors to take part (just as spectators) at the “BYO Roach”, a F1 with cockroaches. This is a serious event, that has a tradition of 23 years. There are 14 trofees at stake. The crazy event starts at noon and ends up with the best thing: “Bugs Golden Cup”.

Top 3 Little Known Spring Destinations for 2010

Spring time is coming soon and what better way to celebrate this wonderful season than by taking a much deserved spring holiday break with your loved ones. Whether you choose to travel with your family and friends or with your a romantic partner, you will agree that spring is a great time to revel in the beauty of the outdoors without overpaying for exorbitant travel packages! You can wade through the numerous travel deals available online but without a destination in mind, it will be easy to let yourself be carried away by the endless stream of offers coming your way. To counter your problem, we present 3 little known spring break destinations for your consideration. Enjoy!

1. Vancouver, Canada
If you’ve been itching to visit Vancouver for year, then you’re in luck. There’s no better time to visit than in spring because this is considered off peak time for tourists to visit. If you’re planning to go now, you’re just about to miss out on the Winter Olympics, one of the most enjoyable Olympic events in history. Most people will shun Vancouver because they think traveling there will be exorbitant, being post-Olympic and all, but you will be surprised to see how many bargains will come knocking upon your door during this time! If you are savvy enough in searching for that sweet travel deal, you will also be pleasantly surprised to find that Whistler is very affordable to visit during this time, even if it is considered high season in the upcoming month of March.

2. India
Did you know that the best months to visit exotic India is between February and July? This is between the time when the snowy season has just ended and before the arrival of the monsoon season. 2009 was not a very good year due to the sluggish economy but with 2010 just making its appearance, India is expected to bounce back with a vengeance, especially in the tourism industry. Renowned hotels such as the Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton chain of hotels are set to give the economy a boost, especially since there are more direct flights to India from Asia via low budget airline – AirAsia. This would be the ideal time to visit Taj Mahal with a loved one.

3. Dusseldorf, Germany
Forget visiting Germany in October for the Oktoberfest. You should be booking travel packages in March when so many events are making an appearance in spring. The Boxing Heavyweight Championship Fight happens on March 20, so if you’re a boxing enthusiast, you should definitely get yourself the best seats in the house. This should not be too difficult because attractive event packages that come with accommodation, meals and free access to public transportation are easily available here. It is relatively cheap to fly to Dusseldorf from major cities in the United States. And if you seek great travel bargains, you will be glad to discover that it costs a little under $1000 for a 5-day package.

So if you really want the sweetest travel bargain and save yourself precious pennies in the process, check out the Internet for some really good deals but most of all, be firm with your choice of holiday destination so that you won’t procrastinate in booking a package!

Volcano erupts in Iceland

Yes, in Iceland – the arctic desert. It’s like Africa’s economy would be the first in the world, peace in Iraq or Britney Spears having 2 hymens….

A volcano that was dormant for almost 200 years, erupted on 21st March in Iceland. The authorities managed to successfully evacuate all the people in the area and although an official statement has not been made yet regarding damages made by the eruption or victims, I’m sure the number of deaths is equal to 0.
Authorities evacuated some 450 people in the area 100 miles southeast of the capital, Reykjavik, as a precaution, said Vidir Reynisson, the department manager for the Icelandic Civil Protection Department.

The eruption occurred beside the Eyjafjallajokull glacier, the fifth largest in Iceland. Authorities initially said the eruption was below the glacier, triggering fears that it could lead to flooding from glacier melt, but scientists conducting an aerial survey in daylight located the eruption and said it did not occur below ice.

“The eruption is a small one,” said Agust Gunnar Gylfason, a risk analyst at the Civil Protection Department.
“An eruption in and close to this glacier can be dangerous due to possible flooding if the fissure forms under the glacier,” he said. “That is why we initiated our disaster response plan.”
The last time the volcano erupted was in the 1820s.

Airplanes received the order to keep the distance, so apart from Egilsstadir, all airports in Iceland are now closed.

Three Icelandair flights from the U.S. – departing from Seattle; Boston; and Orlando, Florida – bound for Keflavik airport in Reykjavik were turned back to Boston. All domestic flights were also canceled until further notice, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service reported.
